Mr. Smith has been employed by Methuen Public Schools for 19 years. During his tenure, he has taught classroom and instrumental music at both the elementary and secondary school level. He is currently the band director at the Comprehensive Grammar School where he has been teaching instrumental music to students in grades 5 through 8 for the past 9 years.
Mr. Smith received his B.M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in 2002 and a M.M.Ed from Gordon College in 2009. His principle instrument is the trumpet which he has been playing professionally for nearly 30 years. Mr. Smith teaches private lessons at Mojo's Music located in Salem, NH.
Over the past 9 years, Mr. Smith has rebuilt the CGS band program from the bottom up including increasing enrollment by 30% and maintaining the integrity of the program by ensuring students are performing developmentally appropriate material. Students perform several concerts throughout the year including the district-wide band jamboree. Several current and former students have participated in the New England Youth Wind Esemble and Mary-Joe Lahey Symphonic Band Camp; both taking place on the campus of Umass Lowell.
Mr. Smith, his wife Emily and his two children Olivia and Teddy enjoy their time together in rural Central Mass where he has lived for 7 years.
